About Joshua Oliveira
Peer Recovery Coach. Lived experience. Professional training. A commitment to helping others find their way.
I believe recovery is not just about stopping a behaviour, it is about discovering who you truly are, rebuilding relationships, developing healthy connections, and creating a life you no longer need to escape from.
My approach is built on compassion, honesty, accountability, and the belief that every person has the ability to change.
If you are struggling, you are not alone. Recovery is possible.
My Story
My name is Joshua Oliveira, and I am a Peer Recovery Coach dedicated to helping individuals overcome addiction and rebuild their lives.
My own journey through addiction and recovery has given me a deep understanding of the challenges faced by those who feel trapped, isolated, ashamed, or hopeless. I know what it is like to struggle with behaviours that seem impossible to overcome, and I know that lasting change is possible.
My recovery journey includes overcoming substance addiction, as well as sex and process addiction. Through treatment, personal growth, ongoing recovery, and professional education, I have experienced firsthand the challenges of surrender, healing, rebuilding trust, and creating a meaningful life in recovery.
I completed a 14-month residential recovery programme where I worked through the 12 Steps and developed the foundation of my own recovery journey.
Today, my purpose is to use both my lived experience and professional training to support others who are still struggling with addiction.
My Mission
To help people move from surviving to living by providing compassionate, evidence-informed recovery coaching, addiction counselling, education and support built on lived experience, accountability and hope.
My Philosophy
Recovery is far more than abstinence. It requires abstinence and good behaviour.
Recovery is learning how to live.
Four Principles I Try To Live By
Be impeccable with my word.
Don't make assumptions.
Don't take things personally.
Always do my best.
The Kintsugi Principle
In Japan, there is an ancient art called Kintsugi, where broken pottery is repaired with gold rather than hidden. Instead of disguising the cracks, they are honoured because they tell the story of what the piece has endured. The broken places become part of its beauty and strength.
This philosophy reflects what I believe about recovery.
Addiction, trauma, loss, and life's struggles can leave us feeling broken. Many people carry shame because of the mistakes they've made or the pain they've experienced. Society often tells us to hide our scars.
Recovery offers a different story.
Healing does not erase the past. It transforms it. The experiences that once seemed to define us can become the very places where resilience, compassion, wisdom, and purpose are formed.
At JB Recovery, I believe that broken does not mean unfixable. Every scar tells a story. Every setback can become part of a comeback. Every person has inherent worth, regardless of their past.
Like Kintsugi, we do not pretend the cracks never existed. We honour them, learn from them, and allow them to become part of a life rebuilt with courage, hope, and purpose.
Restoring Lives. Honouring Every Scar.
